The second rankings for the WATPAC Inter Dominion Championship were released on Wednesday with Highview Tommy, Tanabi Bromac and Scotty Mach gaining the highest lifts.

Highview Tommy moves from ranking 45 to 27 on the basis of its win in the Summer Cup in Aukland defeating the likes of Changeover (9).

Tanabi Bromac finished second in the Barastoc Grand Circuit Wrest Point Tasmania Cup behind Bettors Strike (4) and moved to ranking 22, whilst the lowly ranked Scotty Mach (78) won a $20 000 event in Auckland to move to 63.

Ohoka Dallas moved into the top 40 ranked pacers at 33 also off the back of its recent New Zealand performances against other higher ranked Inter Dominion aspirants.

Highly ranked Bold Cruiser and the former star Sting Lika Bee have already been withdrawn by the respective connections from the Championship.

Connections have until 12 noon on Monday 11th January to withdraw from the WATPAC Inter Dominion with no Acceptance Fee penalty incurred.

This Friday night Tabcorp Park, Victoria is set to host the next major race on the Australian pacing calendar and the next leg of the Barastoc Grand Circuit Series, the prestigious $400 000 Group 1 SEW-Eurodrive Victoria Cup.

Run for the first time at the Melton venue, the Victoria Cup is made up of a quality field of pacers including last year’s winner Melpark Major. Melpark Major blew away the competition in 2008 breaking the track record and is back again to defend his title this year.

The competition will be tough as the reigning champ will come up against stars like Miracle Mile winner Monkey King from New Zealand and the American import boasting an Inter Dominion win under his belt, Mr Feelgood. Monkey King will have to overcome the wide barrier of 13 while Mr Feelgood drew ideally with barrier two.

Other headlining hopefuls to give Melpark Major a run for his money include record-holder for the most Australasian prizemoney earned Blacks A Fake, the locally trained hero Smoken Up and fresh from a win in the Treuer Memorial last Saturday night, Washakie. Smoken Up will have the advantage of the inside running after drawing barrier one.

Bold Cruiser earned his start in the Victoria Cup after claiming victory in the Popular Alm Free-For-All last week by protest while Cranbourne Cup winner Bettors Strike is another starting after a ballot-exempt victory.

The other feature pacing event on the night is the $40 000 Group 3 MHRC Victoria Sires Classic scheduled as race five, while the big trotting event and other Group 1 race feature is the $50 000 Aldebaran Park Stud Bill Collins Trotters Sprint (race six).

The SEW-Eurodrive Victoria Cup will run as race eight on the night’s elite 10-event programme and is due to start at 9:40pm (VIC).

Last Friday night Tabcorp Park, Melton hosted an elite range of feature harness events, the most anticipated of which was the $30 000 Group 3 SEW-Eurodrive Popular Alm Free-For-All (2240m) where eight-year-old Bold Cruiser claimed an upset victory.

The Glenn Douglas-trained Bold Cruiser ($6.50) defeated the odds-on favourite and current Inter Dominion champion Mr Feelgood ($3) on protest. The Live Or Die gelding officially finished just a head behind Mr Feelgood but stewards determined that when Mr Feelgood moved into Express Post Lane, locking wheels with Bold Cruiser in the last stages of the 2240m event, that it deprived Bold Cruiser of winning the race.

Tanabi Bromac ($7) finished third 3.8m back while Maffioso, second favourite at $3.10, had a devastating race coming in last after struggling with his wide barrier.

Bold Cruiser is now exempt from ballot for next week’s prestigious $400 000 Group 1 SEW-Eurodrive Victoria Cup and boasts a career record of 23 wins from 136 race starts for over $500 000 in prizemoney earned.
