After an excellent month’s racing in May featuring quality events including the Group 1 WA Oaks won by Millwood Meg and a number of thrilling Vicbred finals, June is shaping up to be another cracker for pacing race fans across Australia.
The group pacing action for June kicked off last Friday night June 4 with the $100,000 Vicbred Super Series Final for three-year-old colts and geldings at Tabcorp Park Victoria, won by the in-form David Hercules ahead of hot favourite Cuttheattitude. It was a brilliant night of racing at Kilmore, with the $50,000 Group 2 4 & 5 YO Championship also decided when $52 chance Rockets Reject claimed an upset win a mere neck ahead of the $2 favourite Captain Joy.
Another feature race takes place tonight, Monday June 7, in WA when the $30,000 Group 3 Pinjarra Pacing Cup takes place featuring quality pacers including Has The Answers, Ima Rocket Star and the Grant Williams-trained and driven Precious Dylan in the far outside barrier.
Next Friday night, June 11, the next Group 1 pacing event lights up the Gloucester Park track when a field full of fine two-year-old fillies contest the $100,000 Diamond Classic. At the same meeting four $50,000 Group 2 finals of the New South Wales Sire Stakes are decided, one each for two and three-year-old colts & geldings, and then two and three-year-old fillies.
In Queensland, the $50,000 Group 2 Redcliffe Yearling Sale Race Series No 2 Final is held on the biggest night of racing for the north-Brisbane paceway, also held on Friday June 11.
Then on Sunday June 13 the pacing action moves to Tasmania for the $30,000 Group 3 Bullock Consulting Bandbox Final for three-year-old fillies, and the $30,000 Group 3 Globe Derby Final for three-year-old colts and geldings.
One final Group 3 pacing race is held before the next elite-level event, the $30,000 Tontine Pacers Series Final on June 17 at Terang in Victoria.
On Friday June 18 one of the month’s most anticipated races is then held at Gloucester Park, the $100,000 Group 1 Pearl Classic for two-year-old colts and geldings.
The next group race is then held on Friday June 25 at the Gold Coast in Queensland when quality three-year-olds take to the track for the $30,000 Group 3 Gold Coast Oaks. The headline event at the meeting will be the $50,000 Group 2 Premiers Cup Final, and other highlights are the $35,000 Group 3 QBred Breeders Classic Finals.
But the night of nights for pacing fans in June doesn’t take place until the final Saturday of the month, when an incredible four $125,000 Group 1 NSW Breeders Challenge Finals take place at Tabcorp Park, NSW.
