Media Release: NSWHRC
The NSW Harness Racing Club has released its preliminary shortlist for the $100, 000 Cordina Chicken Farms Ladyship Mile.
To be conducted under lights on April 23 at Tabcorp Park Menangle, the Group 1 event is the most sought after race by connections of Australasia’s finest mares.
This year’s challengers appear to be no different, headed by the home State’s number one mare – Lady Lexus.
Successful at her last three starts, including last Saturday night at Bathurst, Lady Lexus is already assured a spot in the Ladyship Mile courtesy of her victory in the Robin Dundee Stakes on February 19.
The race carried an automatic invitation to the winner, just like the $20, 000 Teeny Teeny Stakes at Harold Park on April 16.
Spots in the Cordina Chicken Farms Ladyship Mile will be keenly contsested despite the fact two horses that had already secured an invitation, Surfing Star and Maudie, have been subsequently retired due to injury.
Over the next two weeks, mares will be trying to not only win their way into the 10-horse field, but add their name to an Honour Roll that includes some great mares like Tailamade Lombo (1998, 1999), Norms Daughter (1996), Sabilize (1993, 1996 – June), Jodies Babe (1988, 1989) and Bat Del (1985, 1987).
Any other mare which performs creditably but is not short listed will also be considered for an invitation by the NSWHRC Executive Management.
