Bettors Strike Wins Cranbourne Pacing Cup

Last Saturday night Cranbourne hosted the 45th Group 2 $60 000 Cranbourne Pacing Cup (2555m) where Carl Dalgety’s up-and-coming New Zealand runner Bettors Strike claimed victory.

Five-year-old bay gelding Bettors Strike ($4.80) defeated the race favourite Ohoka Nevada ($3.00) by the smallest margin possible, a short-half-head in a nail-biting photo finish, with Maryborough Cup winner Karlsruhe ($22) 8.8m back from the winner in third.

The son of Bettors Delight started well from the front row out of barrier seven and was the outside leader throughout claiming victory after a last start second place in the New Zealand Cup at Christchurch on November 10.

Winner of the Kilmore Cup, the Tony Peacock-trained Ohaka Nevada driven by Dexter Dunn was up the front contesting the lead with Bettors Strike throughout the whole race.

The victory bought Bettors Strike’s career record to 12 wins from 50 race starts.
